Black Women reclaim Their African Roots

The afro is quickly becoming one of the most popular hair styles for both men and women. It is a naturally curly (or "kinky") look that is easy to do, looks good, and even makes you feel good about your own hair. With just a few simple steps, you can change your entire look at home. An afro is simply a natural evolution of straight or curly hair, from naturally curly (kinky) hair, to naturally straight (naturally curly) hair with curl. It is more than just a haircut, it is an opportunity to show off your unique style. An afro does not need to be straight to be kinky or curly, or vice versa.

Afros come in many forms. From Spanish to African, Latin to Samora, each has its own beauty and the look, but they all originate from the same place-the Caribbean. Some have straight fibers, some are ugly, some are in between, and many have variations of all three. There is no one specific type of afro, which is another reason why they are so versatile.

What is unique about the afro-latinx of America? The first thing that comes to mind is blackness. This is the universal sign of Africanness. However, the blackness in America is less than perfect. Many black Americans are light skinned (think Oprah), and are not necessarily self-conscious about their light skin, but many still want to have lighter hair, or lighter skin. This all leads to a situation where a person who wants to have an afro can either get it done chemically, or by hair removal.

In many cases, an African American's hair is treated more like a crown than as a wig. This treatment can be a good thing, because it gives the afro-latinx a sense of strength and authority. However, the negative side of this treatment is that often times the blackness that is associated with slavery is left behind, and the afro becomes just another part of one's beauty. This is not the case for all African Americans. For example, in certain regions of Nigeria, the women are often allowed to wear full sleeves, and even on the top of their head, whereas in other regions, black women are simply asked to cover up, and not go beyond what is culturally acceptable.

So, how can black women in America reclaim their African roots? One answer might be to dye their hair, but there is also another option. It is possible to get an Afro weave, which is essentially a hairstyle made from afro wigs. These wigs are usually made from human hair, but can be synthetic or from animals. These are worn by black women all over the country, and they are gaining in popularity among black women as well.

There are many cultural and historical reasons for the growth of afro-latino hair today. One is the slave trade, which was prevalent in southern United States. Another is the mixing of Latino cultures along the Mexican border, due to the influx of Latin American immigrants. Still another reason for the growth of the afro-latino hair style is the influence of Mexican and Spanish styles of dress on American slaves, who were brought to the southern states to work. Thus, the blackness that was present in many black women's hairs in earlier times was born out of the need to assert blackness, whether consciously or not.
