A True Sports Star - Alex Favre

Alex is a common name. It may refer either to a shortened form of Alex, Arty or various other variations thereof. Alex is derived from the Greek word "akaz" which means joy. The name "Alexis" comes from Greek mythology and the name of a daughter of Zeus and Themis. It is said that this name was given to her by her mother because she enjoyed being a child of the goddess.

Alex is a versatile player who plays for both club and country sides. He began his career playing football at the University of Bristol. Alex, like many others, made a name for himself at Bristol University as a striker, a goal scorer, and also as a goalkeeper. This is where he began to hone his athletic prowess and later played part time for the Leeds United for two seasons. He later transferred to Manchester United, where he spent four seasons as a first team goalkeeper before moving into the coaching position.

In 1990, Alex became a member of the Canadian national football team and in 1992 was named the CFL athlete of the year. During his time with the Canadians Alex was selected in the NFL draft and chose to play for the Calgary Bears. However, his days with the Canadian National Football Team were cut short when he suffered an injury during the infamous Locker room incident. Alex was traded to the Atlanta Falcons, where he was then named the starting quarterback and asked to stand in for Favre.

A native of Whiteman, Montana, Alex was one of the smallest players to be chosen in the NFL draft, coming in at number twenty-seventh overall. However, he proved to be an asset to the Atlanta Falcons immediately. He completed the season impressive, throwing for over 401 yards and rushing for over 650 yards. Alex earned the starting job over Favre in the following season and has never looked back since.

Alex earned a degree in education, though he considers himself more of a sports player than an educator. Before entering the professional football industry, Alex Favre spent three years as a student at the University of Montana. While there he earned All-conference First Team and honorable mention recognition as a senior. A native of Missoula, Montana, Alex was born in a town known for Montana beer.

Alex is currently married with two children that were born while he was in college. He currently plays for the Atlanta Falcons. Before retiring from professional football he served as the pitching coach for the Missoula Indians. Alex Favre was born in Missoula, Montana.
